Bear Creek Campground
Distance from Downtown Kelowna: 11 kms
Nestled on the west side of Okanagan Lake, Bear Creek Campground and Provincial Park is one of the best places to head for camping in Kelowna. Not only will you have access to over 5km of beautiful hiking trails and 400 meters of dazzling coastline, but the amenities here are second-to-none.
You’ll be able to set up at 1 of the 143 campsites with upgraded flush toilets, and once you’ve settled in, you can hit the water for a spot of swimming, canoeing, windsurfing, or waterskiing. If you’re less partial to a rush of adrenaline, why not channel your inner angler with some fishing? Whatever you choose to do, the sweeping views of Bear Creek are guaranteed to take your breath away.
If you’re visiting during peak season (the summer months are usually heaving!), reserving a spot in advance is essential. Should you have kiddos in tow, don’t miss the children’s playground between campsites 30 and 31 that will keep them occupied for hours.
Kekuli Bay Provincial Park
Distance from Downtown Kelowna: 59 kms
Just 11km south of Vernon, Kekuli Bay Provincial Park is one of the most beautiful spots for camping near Kelowna. Tucked away behind the enchanting Kalamalka Lake, this campsite is an ideal spot for watersports. The site has 81 vehicle-accessible sites, 4 electrical RV hookups, and 8 tented sites that are shaded by mature, pre-planted trees.
The campsite offers the following amenities and guest perks: flush toilets, a children’s playground, free hot showers, drinking water, picnic areas, and decent Wi-Fi. There’s much to love about this site, but its proximity to the Okanagan Rail Trail and access to Kalamalka Lake are the major selling points for city slickers wanting an escape from metropolitan life.
Be aware that this campground is only open between April and October each year, so winter visitors will need to find an alternative option. Additionally, Kekuli Bay operates on a first-come-first-served basis with a waitlist. If you want to take your chances during peak periods, there is an overflow camping area on the grass that may suit you.
Ellison Provincial Park
Distance from Downtown Kelowna: 60 kms
If you’re after lakeside views, accessible camping, and plenty of shade, then you’ll appreciate everything that Ellison Provincial Park has to offer. Just 16km from Vernon, this camping area is surrounded by Douglas fir and ponderosa pine trees, giving guests privacy and protection from the blazing summer sun.
Adrenaline junkies will love rock climbing on the nearby granite cliffs or hitting the long trails for mountain biking, while those partial to a relaxing afternoon can pack a picnic to enjoy in the day-use area. Don’t leave without scuba diving in the freshwater dive park or visiting Sandy Beach!
The park operates on a first-come-first-served basis, but 70% of the sites are pre-bookable. Due to its enduring popularity, it’s highly recommended to book in advance if you’re traveling in a large group to avoid panic-searching for hotel vacancies!
Fintry Lake Provincial Park
Distance from Downtown Kelowna: 38 kms
Offering 101 vehicle-accessible sites, Fintry Lake Provincial Park is one of the largest Kelowna camping spots on our list. What sets this campground apart from its competitors is the characteristic sloping landscape; with deep canyons, glistening waters, and natural sandy beaches, it’s unsurprising that this campsite sees swathes of visitors passing through each year.
In addition to the glorious scenery, Fintry Lake is excellent for wildlife spotting (keep an eye out for deer and bighorn sheep!), swimming, hiking, and biking. The Short Creek Trail leads guests to a waterfall that’s perfect for family photographs, and several signposted points of interest will teach you about Indigenous territories in Kelowna. You’ll have access to drinking water, picnic areas, flush toilets sani-stations, showers, and a playground, but you’ll need to visit the nearby towns for anything else.
As this campsite is extremely popular, be sure to book a site via Discover Camping. 85% of the sites are reservable in advance, while the other 15% operate on a first-come-first-served basis.
Canyon Farms RV Park
Distance from Downtown Kelowna: 15 kms
If you’re searching for a reliable RV park in Kelowna, then you’ll love Canyon Farms RV Park. Located in East Kelowna, this charming park is just 5 minutes from Scenic Canyon Regional Park. Offering spectacular views of local flora and fauna, endless nature trails, and a back-to-basics farm vibe, this rustic RV park is one of our favorites in Kelowna!
At this site, you’ll find 8 spacious pull-through sites with 20, 30, and 50-amp services, vehicle parking spots at your site, water and waste hookups, washroom and laundry facilities, free Wi-Fi, and a nearby grocery store. If you’d like to bring your pup along for the ride, simply make sure they’re always on a leash.
While you’re here, you can head into the Okanagan Valley or hike around the Kettle Valley Riverway. If you’re a fan of water-based activities, hit Okanagan Lake for kayaking, canoeing, or swimming! Golfers will also appreciate the site’s proximity to Gallagher’s Canyon Golf & Country Club which boasts a sprawling 18-hole championship course with incredible views of the surrounding area.
Rates here are reasonable, and you can expect to pay $55/night or $350/week during the low season, and $69/night or $440/week during the high season. This is in keeping with the prices offered by other local sites, so we’d say it’s worth booking if you’re keen on the location! Just be aware that there’s an additional 5% tax charge added to each booking that may alter your budgeting somewhat.
Macdonald Acres
Distance from Downtown Kelowna: 18 kms
Macdonald Acres is one of the best Kelowna camping spots, as it’s only 20 minutes from downtown Kelowna, but far enough away that you won’t hear any city noise!
All sites here are fully serviced with 30 or 50-amp hookups, and there are several picnic tables and propane fire pits dotted around that can be rented for a small fee. This campsite is also entirely pet-friendly, and there’s a playground onsite for kiddos that need to let off some steam. For a more glamorous accommodation option, check out the large 1600 square foot suite with 3 bedrooms, and a fully equipped kitchen.
If you head off-site, you’ll find Kangaroo Creek Farm, Okanagan Adventure Park, the local farmers market, Gyro Beach, and Ben Lee Splash Park. Nearby, you’ll also find the popular Earl’s On Top and Cactus Club restaurants. Both eateries have outstanding patios, giving visitors panoramic views of the harbor.
Heartland Kelowna
Distance from Downtown Kelowna: 20 kms
Situated in the stunning Kelowna wilderness area, Heartland Kelowna offers the perfect escape for tourists that are tired of metropolitan living. Spanning 178 acres, this campsite offers glorious views of the Okanagan Valley and its surrounding forestry. Heartland boasts RV campsites, tenting sites, and a dedicated lodge area that often hosts parties, sports screenings, and special events.
Rates are extremely affordable, with 4-person tents costing approximately $35/night and motor homes costing $45/night. Heartland Kelowna is also split into 2 sections – Camp Gunga and Camp Heart. Camp Gunga features 12 campsites, 10 RV sites, fire pits, picnic tables, and toilets, while Camp Heart offers 25 campsites, a nearby playground, a shower house, fire pits, and portable toilets. Showers cost $3 per person, but the water pressure is usually excellent so it’s worth the additional cost – almost!
If you’re feeling feisty, head to the nearby WildPlay Kelowna and Monkido Aerial Adventure for ziplining, climbing, and treetop adventures. You can also explore Lake Okanagan, the Okanagan Valley, and the downtown Kelowna area for local attractions. Located just 25 minutes from the city via Highway 33, you’ll be exploring central Kelowna in no time!
Postill Lake Lodge
Distance from Downtown Kelowna: 36 kms
Nestled right on the lakeside, Postill Lake Lodge is an excellent base for exploring Kelowna. Not only will this location give you access to the azure waters of the lake for canoeing, boating, kayaking, and swimming, but you’ll be able to flex your angling muscles with a touch of trout fishing! If you’re looking for something land-based, head out on the trails for hiking and mountain biking on the X-Country Trail System.
You’re not quite as close to Kelowna as you may be at other campgrounds, but the increased elevation (you’ll be at 4586-feet above sea level!) affords visitors impressive views of the surrounding forestry. The campsite offers 17 cabins, cottages, trailers, and 11 campsites, but if you’re looking to bring your RV along for the ride, be aware that there are no hookups here. However, you’re welcome to boondock if that works for you!
The campsites are spread across three different areas called Waterfront, Upper Site, and East Site. The Waterfront sides are naturally more expensive, and cost around $40/night. If you’re looking to cut costs, the Upper Sites will see you comfortably sheltered for just $25/night. Although we recommend shelling out slightly more for the Waterfront sites (you’ll be ideally positioned for lake access and nighttime stargazing!), you’ll get a similar experience across the entire site.
Lodge amenities include kitchens, bathrooms, comfortable beds, a loft area, a propane-fired stove, a small fridge, and plenty of crockery and cutlery. There’s also a wood burner which should keep your lodge toasty in the winter months. On the other hand, campers will have access to coin-operated showers, BBQ areas, running water, and toilets.
Located just 40 minutes from Kelowna, you’ll be well-placed to explore the best of the city’s natural side but will still be within driving distance of the downtown area – hurrah!
West Eagle
Distance from Downtown Kelowna: 12 kms
When it comes to Kelowna camping that’s quiet, well-maintained, and conveniently located for exploring Westbank, you can’t do better than West Eagle Campground. This is the perfect camping spot for golfing fanatics, as you’re a mere stone’s throw from the Two Eagles Golf Course and Academy. Here, newbies and seasoned golf pros can putt away to their heart’s content while enjoying the expansive natural landscape.
In terms of amenities, West Eagle has plenty to offer. Most of the showers and laundry services are coin-operated, so it’s wise to come prepared! They also have a designated Sani Station, playground, and beach volleyball court. Once you’ve freshened up and exhausted all that this campground has to offer, head to the nearby Shelter Bay Marina to rent a boat for the afternoon. Then, settle in for a nightcap and locally sourced meal at the Marina Hotel.
Sandy Beach Campground
Distance from Downtown Kelowna: 53 kms
Just mere minutes from Kin Beach in Vernon, Sandy Beach Campground is one of the best spots for camping near Kelowna. There are 24 sites here, and though it’s typically crowded, it never feels overwhelming. The beach is easily accessible from several points along Tronson Road and the water is extremely shallow, making it perfect for little legs that are just learning to swim! On the beach, you’ll also find volleyball nets, a large kids’ playground, and large stretches of sand for picnicking and sunbathing.
If you head slightly further afield, you’ll find Paddlewheel Park, a charming small beach with a grassy play area, the Picnic Pavilion, and a boat launch. If you need food, there are several grocery stores and gas stations within walking distance for a quick bite. Dutch’s Campground
Distance from Downtown Kelowna: 49 kms
Dutch’s Campground is one of the most popular places for camping near Kelowna for a reason. Offering over 100 serviced sites, excellent water-based activities, and access to nearby grocery stores and gas stations, it’s the perfect spot for the whole family.
This campground is in the middle of Coldstream, but it’s only 5 minutes walk to the stunning Kalamalka Beach if you’d like to escape the hustle and bustle of the main town. You’ll find many guests swimming and paddleboarding, but don’t be afraid to take things easy with a cup of coffee on the dock.
If you’re looking for things to do nearby, don’t miss the Okanagan Rail Trail, the Kalavida Surf Shop for supplies, and Alexanders Beach Pub and Liquor Store for comfort food (the calamari and Cajun prawns are to-die-for!). Before leaving, visit the onsite 9-hole mini-golf course to indulge your inner child.
Cedar Falls Campground
Distance from Downtown Kelowna: 65 kms
If powerful waterfalls, sprawling nature trails, and luscious greenery are your bag, then you’ll simply adore Cedar Falls Campground. Neatly tucked away by BX Falls in the Silver Star Foothills, this hidden gem is one of Vernon’s best-kept secrets.
There are 63 sites available for rent (49 support RVs), but you can rent out their gorgeous cabin if you want to dial things up a notch. The cabin doesn’t have plumbing, but it’s close enough to the washroom facilities onsite that this shouldn’t be an issue.
In addition to the flush toilets, hot showers, and children’s play area, there’s an outside BBQ area, a fire pit for cold winter nights, and an incredible team of staff who are always on-hand to help. We recommend booking a serviced site well in advance, as they’re popular among RVers and sell out quickly. If you want to get your steps in, check out the 1.7-mile Creekside Trail for stunning forestry and views of the famous BX Falls.
The online reservation fee is only $4, and you’ll be able to book over the phone for $7.50. If you want to stay long-term during the off-season, just give them a call or visit their website for further information.
Echo Lake Resort
Distance from Downtown Kelowna: 100 kms
With its glorious pine trees and laidback vibe, it’s unsurprising that Echo Lake Resort is considered one of the best places for camping near Kelowna at about an hour and a half away. Depending on your preference, you can either book into one of their 7 rustic cabins or take things back to basics with a lakefront campsite spot (there are 33 available on a first-come-first-served basis). There are slight price differences for premium waterfront rooms vs. forested sites, but we’re talking $5 a pop (nothing that will break the bank!).
There are excellent amenities on offer for both options, but if you’re looking for fridges, chairs, private outdoor firepits, and a private dock, a cabin is the way to go. However, both cabin-dwellers and campsite enthusiasts will have access to the communal beach – so fear not if your primary concern is catching some rays!
If you’re looking to elevate your camping experience, why not hire a fishing boat and try your luck on the water? Whatever you choose to do, be aware that they require a two-night minimum booking during the shoulder seasons and a three-night booking during peak periods.
Apple Orchard RV Park
Distance from Downtown Kelowna: 9 kms
Among the vineyards and orchards of Southeast Kelowna lies Apple Orchard RV Park, one of the best places for camping in Kelowna. Only a 10-minute drive from downtown, local beaches, and attractions, it’s a reasonably priced option for RVers requiring full 50-amp hookups, wi-fi, integrated water systems, and washrooms. Due to its prime location, reservations are highly advised. However, if you visit during an off-peak period, the friendly staff can likely squeeze you in!
The amenities are excellent, but what makes Apple Orchard RV Park special are the agri-tourism facilities, including an onsite distillery and nearby orchards. This means that you’ll be able to reach Ross Orchards, Kempf Orchards, Pomona Orchard, and the Kuipers Family Fruit Farm within minutes for organic apple-picking and family fun.
Wood Lake RV Park & Marina
Distance from Downtown Kelowna: 24 kms
For lush sandy beaches, recreational water sports, and unbeatable wildlife-spotting opportunities, you can’t beat Wood Lake RV Park & Marina. Once a mid-19th century dairy farm, this wonderful location has transformed itself into a sell-out RV park that hosts beachside parties, campfire gatherings, and outdoor adventure walks for guests. Perched right on Wood Lake, you can enjoy breakfast and a strong cup of coffee while watching the water skiers roll by. If you’d like to get up close and personal with Mother Nature, head to Winfield Creek for heron and Mallard-spotting.
There are 180 full-service RV sites available for rent during the peak season (April through to mid-October), and the resort offers a slip marina, shower facilities, coin laundry, a children’s playground, and boat parking. There are additional charges for Sani-Dumps and utility trailer parking, but the total fee is usually negligible for an average stay.
Reservations are encouraged at Wood Lake RV Park, and there is a minimum stay rule of 5 days applied from June 25th to September 6th. You’ll also need to pay a $45 cancellation fee if you bow out more than 8 days from arrival. If you cancel within 8 days, you forfeit your deposit!
Peachland RV Park
Distance from Downtown Kelowna: 25 kms
Open year-round, Peachland RV Park is ideally located for West Kelowna tourists. With 81 fully serviced 50/30-amp sites, this well-equipped RV park offers laundry rooms, self-storage facilities, and Sani-Dumps for visitors. Surrounded by forestry and just minutes from the beaches of Peachland, this pine-filled wonderland is well worth the drive. For fans of the Great Outdoors, we highly recommend visiting the Trepanier Creek Greenway Regional Park for exciting trails and panoramic views of Okanagan Lake.
There are no restrictions to how long you can stay here, and short stays of 1 to 2 days can be easily booked online. Just be aware that this area is incredibly popular, so don’t leave it too late!
Todd’s RV and Camping (closed)
Distance from Downtown Kelowna: 22 kms
Another excellent RV site in West Kelowna is the family-oriented Todd’s RV and Camping. Located just 30 minutes from Kelowna and Penticton, you’re perfectly placed for day trips to local attractions. Not only does the site offer guests free hot showers (unbeatable after a winter’s day in Kelowna!), but it offers full RV hookups, a central firepit, a convenient Campground Store, and local amenities in nearby Peachland. What’s more, there are water outlets, sewer outlets, and 15/30/50-amp services on-site for ultimate comfort.
If you decide to visit Peachland for the afternoon, don’t miss the Hainley Winery, Okanagan Lake Beachfront Centennial Walk, and the beautiful Heritage Park. Just watch out for the famous Peachland Bats!
You can certainly book a spot at Todd’s in advance, but there are penalties for cancellation that will be taken from your deposit.
Historic O’Keefe Ranch
Distance from Downtown Kelowna: 65 kms
If a quaint and cozy ranch just northwest of Vernon sounds like your idea of heaven, then you’ll adore the Historic O’Keefe Ranch. Founded in 1867, the folks at this historic ranch have had years to perfect their approach to camping in the Kelowna area. There are six no-service RV campsites available, and the ranch invites you to grab a cup of coffee each morning before petting the goats!
The surroundings at the Historic O’Keefe Ranch are breathtaking, and guests will have premium views of the sunsets, local vegetation, and ranch animals from the comfort of their RV. For a more luxurious vacation, try one of their Glamping Pods which feature solar-powered chargers, solar showers, and compostable toilets (perfect for eco-conscious travelers!).
While you’re here, don’t forget to visit the opulent O’Keefe Mansion and Carpenter Gothic-style St. Anne’s Church. Then, step back in time with a visit to the reproduced General Store from 1870 that sells everything from super-sweet candy to kitsch souvenirs.
Don’t leave without visiting the North Okanagan Railroaders Association Model Railway Display. Masterful and completely Instagram-worthy, it’s a must-visit spot onsite.
Okanagan Lake Provincial Park
Distance from Downtown Kelowna: 37 kms
With its sprawling pebble beaches and rows of ponderosa pine and sagebrush trees, Okanagan Lake Provincial Park is one of British Columbia’s most ethereal campgrounds. In addition to panoramic views from both the North and South campsites, the Okanagan Lake is an excellent base for fishing, swimming, waterskiing, and wildlife viewing. For a relaxing stroll, take the 1km trail that spans the edge of the lake.
The campsites themselves feature boat launches, campfires, drinking water, flush toilets, a playground, showers, and picnic areas. There is also a designated winter camping area on the South Campground (an additional $13 per party/per night) and 8 Backcountry Wilderness Camping spots for daredevils.
Like Fintry Lake Provincial Park, reservations to this campsite must be made through Discover Camping. They run on a first-come-first-served basis, and guests with reservations will be asked to register at the gatehouse upon arrival. Guests without reservations may be offered a “One Night Only” pass or be given a spot on the waitlist for alternative days.
