Welcome to Quaaout Lodge

Quaaout Lodge Sunset

Like many of the best places British Columbia has to offer, Quaaout Lodge is located in the thick of a wild heartland rich with natural beauty, historical culture, and adventure opportunities galore – while still offering a bounty of must-do activities on-site, of course.

At the top of our list is Albas Falls, located in Shuswap Lake Marine Provincial Park. Although it will take you about an and a half to get there, it will be worth your journey.

Albas Falls

Five breath-taking waterfalls cascade down the Celestia Creek hiking trail. The rest of this relatively untouched dreamland boasts serene lakes and beautiful sand beaches, as well as plentiful opportunities for peaceful outdoor exploration.

The whole place is so magical that it was where we got engaged. We’re not sure we can provide a better endorsement than that! We actually considered having our wedding at Quaaout Lodge, but we had already booked elsewhere when we stumbled on this gem. I had a little moment because this place right here? My dream wedding destination.

Quaaout Lodge Weddings

The rest of the surrounding area will come with your very own local guide, the cultural coordinator provided by Quaaout Lodge, who will be more than happy to answer all questions and even provide knowledgeable tours of the resort grounds.

Quaaout Lodge offers peace and serenity with its quiet waters nearby, complete with a plethora of water-based activities. The nearby Tsútswecw Provincial Park also provides a wealth of natural splendor, as well as an opportunity to witness the largest salmon spawning event on the west coast.

Quaaout Lodge is close to a number of other nearby entertainment options, such as boat rentals, Zip-Lines, farmers market visits, and games like bocce. If you would rather not leave the resort, you would still struggle to get your fill of their beautiful facilities, amazing food, and cultural opportunities.

A Cultural Hotspot: British Columbia’s Indigenous Tourism

Quaaout Lodge Chiefs Room

One of the best things about British Columbia is its deep connection and history with the land and its Indigenous peoples. There are a staggering 203 different Indigenous communities across B.C.’s six regions, with 30 different languages that have been passed down from generation to generation over thousands of years. Each of these cultures offers a unique and wise take on the world we all share, the animals we live alongside, and the supernatural realms that surround us.

The website Indigenous Tourism BC is a treasure-trove of both opportunities to truly immerse yourself in these cultures and explore them, as well as essential advice on how to ensure that you are traveling responsibly to respect the careful balance between these unique cultures, the land they inhabit, and your right to an adventure.

On their website, you will be able to find Indigenous campgrounds, truly unique dining opportunities, tours, services, and all the information you could possibly need to fully experience the vibrant cultures that call this area their home.

Quaaout Lodge: Talking Rock Golf Course

The Little Shuswap Band is home to one of Canada’s most unique golfing settings, the Talking Rock Golf Course.

Designed by the acclaimed Canadian architects Wayne Carlton and Graham Cooke, this gently meandering course combines the very best of outdoor sightseeing and golf.

The course itself was built around the constraints of the landscape, with minimal alteration meaning that the full majesty of the surrounding sandy forest and shoreline can be experienced throughout your game. As well as safeguarding the natural landscape, this ensures a thoughtful and strategic game that will provide a challenge for the players of all ability levels.

Quaaout Lodge even offers special bundles and deals if you are planning to arrange a small group outing, team-building exercise, tournament, or corporate getaway.

If you are new to the world of golf or just looking to improve your swing, the Talking Rock Golf Academy also offers season-long instruction programs that are personally designed around your skill level. As these are season-long programs, they are best for locals or long-stayers.

On-Site Cultural Immersion

Quaaout Lodge Sacred Place

One of our favorite things about Quaaout Lodge is its understanding that tourism should never be separate from the authentic qualities of the area itself.

In their commitment to upholding this aim, the lodge has employed a number of cultural interpreters to give you a true Secwépemc cultural experience.

We will provide an overview of the various experiences, but a full brochure complete with prices and durations can be found here.

Quaaout Lodge Secwepemc cultural experiences include:

  • Smudge ceremonies – which are a Secwepemc traditional ritual to cleanse the body and mind.
  • Tours – both a ‘Walk the Lands’, and ethnobotanical tour are available to share teachings about the local traditions, landmarks, and the astounding medicinal properties of the area’s plants and foods. Adventure tours for snowshoers or hikers also offer a cultural take on the region’s leading outdoor activities.
  • Storytelling – where you will hear stories passed down through generations, sat snuggly around a fire in the traditional Kekuli winter house of the Secwepemc people.
  • Traditional painting and workshops – these craft activities will allow children and adults alike to get immersed in traditional painting teachings for paddles, rocks, or the creation of your very own traditional dreamcatcher.
  • Spiritual guidance – these personalized experiences will work to cleanse your mind, body, and soul with custom-tailored advice and traditional guidance.

Quaaout Lodge Native Hut

As well as providing these organized cultural experiences, Quaaout Lodge also celebrates Indigenous culture with every wander through the grounds.

Across the site and throughout the buildings, you will stumble upon a myriad of beautiful and intricately detailed carvings and sculptures, each embodying the key beliefs, stories, and legends of the local people.

Things to Do While You Are Near Quaaout Lodge

Although that night sky might make you never want to leave the grounds, the Shuswap area is one of our very favorite places in all of British Columbia for so many reasons.

Outside of our Happy Place (Albas Falls) mentioned above, we also love Margaret Falls nearby, too! It is a super short, stunning trail to the falls.
