The 44th annual Vancouver International Wine Festival is gearing up to showcase a spectacular line-up of 148 wineries from 17 countries. This highly anticipated wine and food festival is set to take place from April 22 to April 30, 2023, with a total of 36 events held over the course of eight days at various venues including the Vancouver Convention Centre.

As the 2023 theme region, South America will be the centre of attention with a particular focus on sparkling wine from all over the world. This will be the first time since 2020 that the festival is highlighting a specific region of the wine world. Festival-goers can expect to experience the wines and stories of 44 wineries from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay at the Tasting Room and special events throughout the eight-day festival.

To add to the excitement, the Vancouver International Wine Festival has enlisted Master Sommelier Evan Goldstein as this year’s keynote speaker. Goldstein, a renowned wine writer and educator, is the president of Full Circle Wine Solutions and Master the World. He shared his excitement about the event, stating that South America and its 10 wine producing nations have had a broad impact on the world of wine, and he is thrilled to be a part of the festival.

Additionally, author, critic, and Decanter Magazine’s South America expert, Patricio Tapia, will be sharing his knowledge with consumers and members of the trade throughout the festival week. The Vancouver International Wine Festival is expected to be a fantastic opportunity for wine enthusiasts and trade members alike to discover and appreciate the wines of South America.

Mark Taylor, co-chair of the VIWF Winery Selection Committee, shared that in addition to the four countries and 44 wineries from South America, a strong contingent from Europe will also be in attendance, with 26 wineries from Italy and other countries like France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Portugal, and Spain also well represented.

In addition, 48 wineries from Canada and the US attending, along with returning favourites from Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.

The Vancouver International Wine Festival will showcase over 800 wines in the Tasting Room, marking a return to pre-pandemic numbers, with a global spotlight on sparkling wine. The festival will be headquartered at the Vancouver Convention Centre, while restaurants and venues around the city will host winery dinners, lunches, seminars, and wine minglers.

The sumptuous Bacchanalia Gala Dinner + Auction, presented by National Bank Private Banking 1859, and benefiting Bard on the Beach, will take place on April 22 at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.

The festival’s heart is the Tasting Room in VCC East, where all 152 wineries will gather for four International Festival Tastings and two Trade Tastings on April 27-29.
