The Shuswap region in British Columbia is renowned as one of the premier camping destinations in the province. We have vacationed in the region numerous times starting from when we were little kids, we even got engaged in the Shuswap! So, needless to say, it’s our favourite.

Its breathtaking natural beauty, characterized by majestic mountains, pristine lakes, and lush forests, creates an idyllic backdrop for outdoor enthusiasts. Campers are drawn to the region’s abundant recreational opportunities, including swimming, boating, hiking, and wildlife viewing. With a diverse range of well-equipped campgrounds and RV parks, along with a family-friendly atmosphere and vibrant community events, Shuswap offers an unforgettable camping experience for nature lovers and families alike.

Shuswap Lake Provincial Park is like a nature lover’s dream come true! This awesome park sits right on the beautiful Shuswap Lake and has everything you need for an amazing getaway. Imagine exploring lush forests, chilling on sandy beaches, and even tackling some rugged mountains—all while having a blast outdoors!

Get your hiking boots ready because Shuswap Lake Provincial Park has a bunch of trails waiting for you. From easy walks to challenging treks, you’ll be surrounded by stunning scenery and might even spot some cool wildlife along the way.

Perhaps the best part of this Shuswap camping spot is the beautiful beach. Jump into Shuswap Lake for a refreshing swim, go boating, try your luck at fishing, or hop on a paddleboard and cruise around like a pro.

The amenities at this provincial park are excellent. In addition to electrical hook-ups and a boat launch, you’ll find drinking water, campfire rings, group campsites, free hot showers, pit and flush toilets, picnic areas, a sani-dump, and a playground.

You’ll also be able to visit the popular amphitheatre and Nature Hut that run free programmes and exhibits for visitors (including a “Learn to Fish” presentation which may come in useful!).

Pierre’s Point Campground is tucked away in the Salmon Arm area of Shuswap, and it’s just minutes from the centre of town. Set right on the beachfront and boasting spectacular views of Bastion Mountain, it’s a glorious place to unwind after an intense, outdoorsy day.

The amenities at this site are excellent and include large shading trees, sewer access, power, water, picnic tables, fire pits, hot coin showers, potable water, a laundromat, and an on-site convenience store. If you head slightly further afield, you’ll find a boat launch and boat storage lot. The site is also entirely pet-friendly, and there’s even a private dog beach where Fido can roam free without creating any trouble for residents!

On your doorstep, you’ll have the stunning Shuswap Lake, which is the perfect spot for swimming, kayaking, fishing, and paddleboarding in the summer sun. To dry off, why not take on the local hiking and biking trails or head to the nearby Margaret Falls for an unbeatable photo opportunity? If you’re visiting with the entire family, we recommend heading over to the Auto Museum, the RJ Haney Heritage Village, and the Salmon Arm Waterslides which are just a few minutes away by car.

As this campsite’s location is enviable, booking one of the 44 sites is essential. Luckily for you – it’s super easy to book using the site’s online reservation system which operates through Let’s Camp.

Herald Provincial Park is one of the most ethereal camping areas in British Columbia, and it covers 79 hectares of beach and forestland. Offering an impressive 128 sites and a large day-use area, it’s unsurprising that this hotspot is frequented by locals and tourists.

If you’re wondering why this place is called Herald Provincial Park (and why it only became a public park in 1975!), let us fill you in. This stretch of land once healed an ailing Vancouver physician, who quickly took to the area’s fresh air and natural beauty. After living on the land for over 70 years, the family released the park to the Province of British Columbia – and here we are!

There are 3 campgrounds here in total, and they are called Bastion Mountain, Reinecker, and Homestead. Bastion is the smallest of the 3 and offers 15 vehicle-accessible sites. Reinecker comes just behind with 36, and Homestead is the largest with 68 sites. Regardless of which area you choose to stay in, you’ll have plenty of privacy and prime access to the Reinecker Creek and Margaret Falls via a 2.5km hike.

As you walk through the site, keep your eyes peeled for wildlife. There are over 70 bird species that call this area home, as they’re attracted to the cherry plums and apple trees that grow nearby.

Considering this is a provincial park, the amenities are relatively good. You’ll have access to a sani-dump during collecting season, pit or flush toilets throughout the park, several picnic areas, drinking water, campfire rings, an adventure playground, hot showers, and a boat launch. 

The dog beach at Herald Provincial Park offers a delightful retreat for furry friends and their owners, with its expansive shoreline and crystal-clear waters, perfect for splashing and playing fetch. Visitors can enjoy the scenic beauty of the surrounding nature while their four-legged companions frolic and socialize in this pet-friendly paradise.

If you’d like to book this shuswap camping spot, you’ll need to head to the BC Parks Reservation System. All sites are reservable, so get in early to avoid disappointment!

Mabel Lake Resort and Marina is nestled on the north shores of Mabel Lake, and we’d say that it’s one of the more upscale Shuswap camping options. Boasting a selection of rustic cabins, RV sites, and luxury condominiums, this resort truly has something for every taste.

For those visiting Shuswap for an authentic and rustic camping experience, stick to the traditional campground. At these sites, you’ll have access to coin-operated laundry facilities, hot showers, toilets, the Beach Café, and a couple of free Wi-Fi zones.

To dial things up a bit, book one of the beach cabins. These are affordably priced as they’re still relatively no-frills, but they tend to feature two bedrooms, bedding, basic bathrooms, and an open concept kitchen. You won’t have access to showers, but you’ll be able to use the main camping facilities if you need to.

For glamping enthusiasts, you can’t go wrong with the Beach House. It features a country-style kitchen and dining room, a private master bedroom, and two additional bedrooms that offer incredible views of Mabel Lake.

If you head outside, you’ll find a sprawling outdoor patio and fire pit that’s ideal for catching up and roasting a couple of ooey-gooey S’mores!

While you’re in the area, head to the 9-hole Mabel Lake Golf Course, check out the local hiking trails, and enjoy a meal at the restaurant.

If you feel like exploring Enderby, you’re just 30 minutes from the centre of town!

Calling all luxury campers – Blind Bay Resort is here to expose you to nature’s beauty without depriving you of any creature comforts. Known for its year-round bougie campsites and cottage rentals, this convenient resort is located a mere 20 minutes from Salmon Arm and is approximately 5 minutes from the Trans-Canada Highway.

It’s perhaps better suited to couples because of its elevated atmosphere, but you’ll still see plenty of families basking in the summer sun on Blind Bay’s private beach. So, if you have cash to splash, don’t be afraid to bring the whole brood!

The campground is nestled within the Shuswap’s dense forestry, and offers 14 beachside lots, 10 lakeview lots, 61 regular lots, and 20 RV-only sites. Amenities include a gym, pool, coin-operated laundry, showers, fire pits, a private marina, 3 playgrounds, a recreation room, a mini theatre, and several paved roads for biking and dog-walking. You’ll also find Shuswap Lake Estates Golf and the Asian Holiday Restaurant right on-site.

If you head towards the water, you can try your hand at fishing, sunbathe on the beach, go swimming, or simply walk through the local green spaces!

If you’re visiting Shuswap and simply must have a lake view from your campsite, Sky Blue Waters Resort is a safe bet. Boasting 500 feet of glorious shoreline and direct access to the lake, Sky Blue Waters Resort offers all campers panoramic vistas that are tough to beat.

The resort is conveniently located near Tappen, which is approximately 16km from Salmon Arm and just 2km from the Trans-Canada Highway. You’re also minutes from the stunning Margaret Falls and Herald Park should you wish to enjoy more of Shuswap’s natural wonders.

Amenities at this campground include a boat launch, a spacious beach, washrooms, shower facilities, fire pits, picnic tables, 15/30-amp power, Wi-Fi, and laundry services. The nearby beach is a great place to sunbathe or go for a swim, while the local trees are a boon for birdwatchers – seriously, you’ll be able to spot bald eagles, osprey, blue herons, and hummingbirds every year!

All sites are reservable, so get in early, and may the booking odds be in your favour!

Sandy Point Campground is a popular sites in the Shuswap area, and it offers superior views of Salmon Arm, Mount Ida, and Bastion Mountain from each of its 120 sites. The campground is entirely family-run, and it has a selection of RV spots with power hook-ups, tented sites, and rustic lodges.

In addition to the main site, Sandy Point Campground also has a seasonal camping area for semi-permanent visitors. So, if you’re looking to visit Shuswap for an extended vacation or live in British Columbia, you can visit multiple times throughout the year between April and early October for a fixed fee.

You can reserve a full-service site, but you’ll still have access to a decent sani-dump if you’d prefer to save some cash. Further amenities include boat and trailer parking, a cookhouse, a playground, washrooms (with super-hot showers, by the way!), and an on-site convenience store. Campers will also be perfectly placed to access the site’s sandy beach and designated swimming areas.

If you’re on the hunt for reliable Shuswap camping options, head down to Salmon Arm Camping Resort. This place has been around since 1970, making it a safe choice for both first-time and experienced campers.

The site is large and features a pool, hot tub, and a fire pit that’s designed for storytelling. In addition to this, you’ll find a mini-golf area, a playground, picnic tables, flush toilets, coin laundry, basketball and pickle courts, and a lovely central office that includes a small convenience store for guests. Just as a heads up – the store serves the best cappuccinos that are perfect for a mid-morning pick-me-up.

If you’re a fan of live entertainment, the campground hosts musicians once a week and runs regular talent shows and dance parties for guests. Moving and grooving not your bag? No worries – simply head to the on-site library and pick out a new book!

Should you wish to forgo traditional camping, why not book into one of their cosy cabins? There are 1 or 2-bedroom options available that can sleep up to 6 people. Each one offers a swing seat, picnic table, fire pit, electricity, and heating. If you can stretch your budget slightly and are travelling with the family, we suggest booking the 2-bedroom option for more space.

Located just 7 minutes from Canoe Beach and Shuswap Lake, Salmon Arm Camping Resort is a wonderful choice for campers looking to explore the Great Outdoors in comfort.

Finz Resort is considered one of the best family-friendly Shuswap camping options, and it’s right on the water’s edge at Blind Bay. Offering 46 sites that are located by the lakeside, waterfront, or upper treed, you can easily find the location that’s perfect for your Shuswap adventure.

The resort boasts a private beach, an on-site restaurant, free wi-fi, a lounge, washrooms, paid showers, laundry facilities, and a boat launch that can be accessed from the Marina. This makes Finz Resort the perfect base for avid kayakers, paddleboarders, and canoeists. If you’d like a more high-octane adventure, rent a Jet-Ski to take out on Blind Bay!

Just 25 minutes away from both Salmon Arm and Chase, Finz Resort is a convenient choice for those looking to cover plenty of ground during their Shuswap trip.

If you’re visiting Shuswap as a group, Viewpoint RV Park & Cottages is a stellar Shuswap camping option, as it can accommodate large motorhomes and pull-thrus.

The site is located right outside of Salmon Arm, and is usually open seasonally (depending on how the weather holds up!). Regarded for its reasonable rates, excellent location, and relaxing setting, it’s an ideal choice for families.

If you’re bringing your RV along for the ride, you’ll be treated to full hook-up sites, water, power, sewage, solar-heated showers, and fire pits. It’s worth noting that the RV sites can accommodate RVs up to 45 feet, which is a more generous allowance than most campgrounds provide.

The site also boasts 7 self-contained cottages with bedrooms, living rooms, full bathrooms, cable TV, free Wi-Fi, a kitchen, and air conditioning (in select cottages). Each cottage sleeps up to 4 people, and they’re incredibly spacious.

As you’re close to Salmon Arm, you can spend your evenings exploring the downtown area, hitting the local restaurants, or heading out to Syphon Falls which is just 20 minutes away on foot.

Another top-tier Shuswap camping option near Salmon Arm is Hidden Valley Campground and RV Park. Located on the Trans-Canada Highway, it’s a wonderful choice for anyone who needs to book a short stay before moving on to larger Canadian cities.

The campground provides everything you’ll need for a comfortable stay, including 50, 30, and 15-amp sites, coin-operated laundry, a small convenience store, a playground, fire pits, a Sani-Station, heated washrooms, flush toilets, and paid showers. Travellers who need to stay connected while on the move will also appreciate the on-site Wi-Fi.

While you’re exploring the site, keep an eye out for several wildlife statues that are dotted around. The bears at the children’s playground are particular fan favourites!

Before you excitedly walk in, all sites here require a reservation. There are absolutely no first-come-first-served sites, and the largest areas can book out months in advance. To avoid disappointment, we suggest nailing down your dates ahead of time and making a booking ASAP!

If you’re heading to the Mara area this year, be sure to add Whispering Pines RV & Tent to your Shuswap camping shortlist. The owners here believe that camping is all about reconnecting with our families and the outdoors. So, expect a family-friendly, relaxing site that’ll allwo you to experience the best of Mara Lake’s natural beauty.

It may not be the largest campground in Shuswap (it comes in at 12 acres), but the amenities at Whispering Pines are on par with much bigger sites. In terms of facilities, you’ll find a heated outdoor swimming pool, a covered gazebo, several grassy fields for team sports, an on-site store for missing items or treats, and a washhouse with warm showers, toilets, and sinks.

If you are in it for the long haul, there’s a decent coin laundry area that’ll have you ship-shape in no time. Wi-Fi access isn’t sitewide, but you can check your emails or surf the web while you’re at the store or pool areas.

Before booking, be aware that each site has a 2-night minimum stay requirement if you want to avoid paying a $10 surcharge. This applies to the full hook-up sites as well as the tented sites.

Side-note: This is the campground Michelle spent every childhood summer at growing up. She has these incredible memories of running of the tractor to hop on a hayride every night after dinner. We wish they still did those!

Scoring a reservation at Cottonwood Cove RV Resort during the peak camping season genuinely feels like striking gold. This resort is usually sold-out months ahead of time because of its enviable location on the shores of Shuswap Lake.

If you’re lucky enough to book in for the summer, you can enjoy the Great Outdoors by going golfing, hiking, biking, or ziplining. In addition to the exciting land-based activities, this spot is ideal for boating, water skiing, tubing, houseboating, and kayaking enthusiasts. If you’d rather stay closer to the resort, grab a sun lounger and stay by the outdoor pool! When things cool down, the hot tub promises to be the ultimate antidote.

Amenities at the resort include 50/30/15-amp power, an on-site marina, public showers and restrooms, a pavilion, a designated dog beach, playgrounds, Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, sewage, potable water, an internal trail system, and surplus parking. The site also runs several exciting activities during the summer, which include yoga, watersports, and explorative walks.

Boasting 3,000 feet of waterfront, several secluded beach areas, and all the amenities you could hope for, Cottonwood Cove RV Resort is a Shuswap camping gem that continues to impress guests.

If you’re on the hunt for Shuswap camping spots that are on the rustic side, consider the search over with Niskonlith Lake Provincial Park.

The park spans 238 hectares, and is known for its gorgeous wildflowers, birdwatching, and fishing opportunities. So, whether you’d like to take a closer look at local blooms or have always dreamed of catching Kamloops trout, this is the place to be. During your visit, we also recommend hiking along the easy trails, hopping into the lake for a swim, or chartering a boat to cover more ground.

The facilities here are minimal, but you’ll have access to a boat launch, campfire rings, and pit toilets at each of the 29 vehicle-accessible sites. The site operates on a first-come-first-served basis and is not reservable.
